BoSox down Yanks in series opener

Baseball Betting Lines

08/06/2010 - Bronx, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ryan Kalish and David Ortiz each homered and Clay Buchholz pitched effectively into the eighth inning to lead Boston over rival New York, 6-3, in the opener of a three-game series.

Buchholz (12-5) shook off a two-run homer by Mark Teixeira in the first inning and ended up scattering nine hits over his 7 1/3-inning start, walking none and striking out four while giving up three runs.

Daniel Bard recorded the final two outs of the eighth, and Jonathan Papelbon closed it out in the ninth to get Boston's 10-game road trip started on the right foot.

The Red Sox entered the set coming off a four-game split against the lowly Cleveland Indians and trailed the front-running Yankees by six games.

They were able to inch closer by knocking around Javier Vazquez (9-8), who surrendered six runs -- three earned -- on six hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss, New York's fourth in five games.

Ortiz hit one to straightaway center for his 24th round-tripper of the year in the first inning, and Teixeira, with Derek Jeter on first base, reached the right-field seats for his fourth homer in six games in the bottom half.

Boston quickly erased its 2-1 deficit in the second frame thanks to Francisco Cervelli dropping a Mike Lowell pop up near the first-base line. The error put runners on the corners, and Vazquez recorded consecutive two-out walks to Jed Lowrie and Jacoby Ellsbury to force in a run.

Marco Scutaro followed with a double down the left-field line to plate two more, and the Red Sox led from there.

Alex Rodriguez's hump-back liner scored Jeter to get within one in the home fifth, but Kalish golfed a Vazquez offering over the right-field wall the next frame for his first big-league blast. Mike Lowell singled ahead of the homer.

Buchholz retired eight of the previous nine hitters he faced before giving up a one-out double to Robinson Cano in the eighth. Bard came in from the bullpen and stranded Cano on second, as Ellsbury made a diving catch in center to rob Lance Berkman of a hit and Curtis Granderson popped out to first.

Papelbon, already making his fourth appearance this month, worked around a two-out walk to Jeter in the last frame for his 27th save of the season.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect

LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.

Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.

Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.

Terrell Owens could return for Cowboys next game

Owens broke the bone leading to his right ring finger Sunday night and had a plate surgically attached to it Monday. Although Owens' hand was swollen and aching Wednesday, Dallas Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said he's optimistic the receiver will be back at work next week and catching passes a week from Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

MySportsbook.com online sportsbook listed Terrell Owens with odds of 7-2 (or $7 paid out for every $2 bet) to return back for the game against Tennessee.

"I certainly wouldn't rule it out now," Parcells said, referring to Terrell Owens immediate return. "Maybe five days from now I might, but I wouldn't rule it out now. ... I know we're looking to try to get him moving around pretty good in the next day or so. So we'll see where we are."

Owens did not speak with reporters Wednesday, but said Sunday he'd be out two to four weeks. A return against the Titans would be 13 days after the surgery. The Cowboys were listed as an early -7 1/2 favorite vs. the Tennessee Titans for Week 4 at MySportsbook.com
