Astros try their luck against red-hot Brewers

Baseball Betting Lines

08/09/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Though it's too late for a playoff push, the Milwaukee Brewers are playing some good baseball right now.

They'll try to extend that run tonight with an eight straight victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in an opener of a four-game series at Miller Park.

The Brewers outscored the Astros, 22-13, in sweeping a three-game series over the weekend and they have scored at least five runs in four of their last six games, winning five of those contests.

Milwaukee capped its weekend sweep on Sunday with an 11-6 victory, getting all of its runs over the first four innings. Lorenzo Cain drove in the first three runs of his career and Casey McGehee notched four RBI, three on a home run in the fourth inning.

"We had some chances this series and we cashed in on them," said McGehee.

Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder both scored three runs and Yovani Gallardo allowed four runs over six innings to get the win.

The Brewers will try to avoid their first loss to the Diamondbacks since May 2 of last year. They swept a three-game set in Arizona from May 7-9 of this season, outscoring the D-Backs 26-6, helped by a 17-3 victory in the middle game of that series.

Chris Narveson, who starts tonight for the Brewers, pitched the finale of that set, allowing a run on three hits over 5 2/3 innings of a 6-1 victory. He improved to 1-0 with a 4.22 earned run average in three career games versus Arizona, two of those starts.

The 28-year-old southpaw is coming off a victory over the Cubs on Tuesday when he allowed a run on six hits over 5 2/3 innings. Narveson improved to 9-7 on the season with a 5.68 ERA.

Ian Kennedy opposed Narveson back on May 9 and got the loss even though he gave up just two runs over seven frames in his first career start versus Milwaukee.

Arizona's 25-year-old righty has struggled over his last three starts, going 1-2 with a 7.02 ERA. He lost to the Nationals on Wednesday, yielding four runs on eight hits over a season-low four innings to fall to 6-9 with a 4.40 ERA this season.

The Diamondbacks had a three-game winning streak halted on Sunday with a 10-1 loss to the Padres, wrapping a homestand with a 4-3 mark. Arizona had just three hits, one an RBI double by Chris Young in the seventh inning.

"We played well this homestand," Young told Arizona's website. "Lately we've been turning things around, playing hard, playing the game the right way, playing small ball, getting big hits when we need them. It's been nice. It's definitely a change from how things were going earlier in the season."

Joe Saunders was drilled for six runs -- five earned -- over six innings for his first loss since joining Arizona from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on July 25.
