Orioles move to 7-1 under Showalter, pound Tribe

Baseball Betting Lines

08/10/2010 - Cleveland, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Luke Scott and Felix Pie each hit a three-run homer, as the Baltimore Orioles pounded the Cleveland Indians, 14-8, in the opener of a three-game set at Progressive Field.

Scott also doubled, knocked in four and scored twice, while Matt Wieters clubbed a two-run homer and drove in three for Baltimore, which has won seven of eight under new skipper Buck Showalter. Corey Patterson had a solo home run in the win.

Jake Arrieta (4-3), making his first-career start against the Tribe, struggled through six innings, but was able to get the victory after allowing six runs -- five earned -- on six hits.

Michael Brantley had a two-run homer, finished with three RBI and scored three times for the Indians, who have dropped three straight and five of seven. Shin Soo-Choo had a two-run double in defeat.

Justin Masterson (4-11), who was coming off a win over Boston on Wednesday by limiting his former club to a run and four hits in five innings, wasn't as fortunate in this one. The big right-hander lasted five frames and surrendered seven runs -- four earned -- on six hits, walked three and struck out three in taking the loss.

Asdrubal Cabrera's single up the middle in the third opened the scoring and gave the Indians a brief advantage.

However, the Orioles answered with four in the fourth. Nick Markakis led off with a walk and Ty Wigginton reached on an error. Scott's double to left chased in a run to tie things and Adam Jones' groundout plated another. Later in the inning, run-scoring singles by Wieters and Cesar Izturis made it a 4-1 game.

The pendulum swung the other way in the home half, as Cleveland responded with a five-spot to surge in front 6-4. Trevor Crowe doubled in Jordan Brown, who started the inning with a one-out two-bagger. Crowe then stole third and scored on Luis Valbuena's groundball to second. Jason Donald got aboard via a base hit and Lou Marson was hit by a pitch. Brantley followed with an RBI single and after Cabrera walked to load the bases, Choo laced a two-run double into the right-field corner.

In the fifth and Orioles on first and second with two away, Pie crushed a sinker over the wall in straightaway center to give his squad a 7-6 advantage. Patterson launched a solo shot to right in the sixth.

Meanwhile, Arrieta settled down to retire six in a row, but was lifted in favor of Mark Hendrickson to begin the seventh and the big lefty threw a perfect inning.

Baltimore then blew it wide open with six more in the eighth. Pie doubled to get the inning started and trotted home on Wieters' blast to right-center. Later, Izturis' RBI base hit and a three-run shot by Scott upped the O's lead to 14-6.

Brantley clubbed a two-run homer off Armando Gabino in the bottom of the ninth to make it 14-8, which would be the final score.

Game Notes
