06/05/2010 - Washington, D.C. (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Troy Perkins, who allowed 15 goals in his first six starts, posted his first shutout of the MLS season Saturday night as D.C. United ended Real Salt Lake's five-game win streak with a 0-0 draw at RFK Stadium.
Perkins, who has played seven times for the United States, was benched by Curt Onalfo earlier this season but played well in a mid-week U.S. Open Cup victory over Real Salt Lake and followed with his first result in MLS this season.
Although United (2-8-1) won its second match of the year last week with rookie goalie Bill Hamid making his fourth start, Perkins' performance in the 2-1 win over Real in overtime Wednesday earned another chance in league play.
Perkins, a former MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, wasn't very busy Saturday night and didn't have to make his first save until deep into stoppage time, when he denied Will Johnson. Perkins posted his 20th career MLS shutout.
United, which allowed 20 goals in its first 10 games, posted its first shutout of the season.
Nick Rimando made four saves for Real Salt Lake (6-3-2), which was shutout for just the second time this season. Rimando's shutout was his second this year.
Real hosts the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday in its final match before the World Cup break. D.C. United visits Seattle Sounders FC on Thursday before the two-week break.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch
Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.
Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.
"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup
September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com. The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.
Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to name a few. Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR. They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.
The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer. Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
